The Belgian refrigeration federation announces a 4.14% increase in costs for 2023

Over the past year, the Belgian refrigeration and freezing sector has seen a remarkable 4.14% increase in costs, according to recent calculations by BE-Cold (formerly UPBIF.

This analysis is based on the evolution of official indices such as those of STATBel, including the consumer price index, the labour cost index and the ITLB index. The increase in costs can be attributed to the rise in wages, distribution costs and raw materials in the logistics sector, such as cardboard, plastic packaging materials and refrigeration plant maintenance.

These results, which cover the period from November 2022 to November 2023, are in line with the forecasts of the Federal Planning Bureau, which published its report on expected annual inflation for 2023 earlier this month.

It should also be noted that energy prices have almost halved since the start of the year.

The BVBVK starts with energy surcharge

Since energy prices shot through the roof last year, the BVBVK has introduced the "energy price surcharge".

This is a calculation based on objective data, namely the Belpex prices that are published daily on the Elexys website, in order to be able to communicate transparently to customers on a monthly or quarterly basis. When average energy prices rise, a surcharge is received; when average energy prices fall, this obviously works the other way round. It is therefore comparable to the diesel surcharge.
